There is a place I love to go to escape reality only if only for an hour or two. Some would call it a junk shop but I think it is a bit of a haven for me. Looking at the shelves and shelves of literally everything you can think of (even human teeth!) Being in a place like that takes your mind away from worries and takes you to a place of discovery.

Review of 2011

I saw 2011 in with my first collaboration with modelling agencies which was obviously very exciting for me! Hannah @ Profile (on the left) was a joy to shoot with and made my first agency shoot far less nerve racking. Shooting with Jen @ Profile (on the right) was the first time I shot in a studio setup with natural light which was amazing as using artificial lighting scares me a bit!

In April I was asked to shoot the look book for Brighton based boutique Treasure Dress. It was the first time I had been given a brief from a client so it was daunting but such a great look into the future.

My summer consisted of experimenting with film and testing in and around London for numerous online and print publications.

Seven sunsets. I went on a life changing holiday off the shore of Africa with my lover.

As Autumn rolled around I started my second year at university so testing became harder to fit in around my schedule. However I would shoot and submit work whenever I could.

At the beginning of December I collaborated with online boutique The Little Deer. . Here is a sneaky peek of the look book!

2011 to 2012

2011 has contained both the worst and best days of my life. Being betrayed and lied to really made me slide quickly into a dark place. Not only that but getting physically attacked by them following in a police investigation which turned out to be one of the most stressful things I have ever had to go through.

A light entered my heart and lifted me out of the darkness. Over half a year we became lovers and I have truly never felt as loved, cared for or appreciated before now. Life is now amazing and I am bursting with life.

In terms of my photography work it has been an amazing year. Numerous magazine submissions, features and interviews. My first client. Also discovering film which I am now in love with.

2012:

Submissions
I want to accomplish at least ten magazine submissions in 2012. Fingers crossed I get a lot more though!

Documentation
Now that I have a beautiful film camera I want to take advantage and take more photos in a documentary style. I want to carry my camera with me more and capture what I see.

Experimentation and Concepts
With my love of film I want to take it further and experiment in the darkroom creating actual prints.

Personal work
I did have a 'photo diary' in 2011 however I got so busy with uni work I stopped. But I am going to make the time this year.

Summer comes to a close, the hazy afternoon sunlight clings to the air. Clouds part and the sun beams down to warm our cold flesh. Greens turn to oranges and browns. Underfoot is crisp and hard and dead. Blue skies blanketed with heavy rain clouds. The haze will appear again soon.

Seven Sunsets

Seven nights just me and you. We flew away from a rainy English sunrise, through bursting grey clouds and heavy raindrops. We flew over the fields, lakes and mountains of Europe to Tenerife off the shore of Africa.

We paid for a trip into the middle of the ocean where we lay in the burning sun on suspended netting over the sea. Groups of dolphins jumped through the waves just metres away from us. We sailed to a cove where we stopped and we swam very close to some sea turtles. On our return journey we were joined by some whales travelling right next to the boat. I had never experienced anything as beautiful as seeing these amazing animals in their natural environment; free.

A cocktail bar five minutes from the hotel was our favourite place to sit at night. The bar was on the beachfront, and we sat in a teepee by candle light listening to slow beating music.

Seven sunsets. Every night we watched the sun float and then drop through the yellow sky. As it became red and the sky darkened, a blanket of stars dominated the sky. We would lie on a terrace bed or walk along the sandy beach barefoot.

Becoming one half

Being half of one whole gives me anxious butterflies. The feeling is wonderful and i feel on top of the world. After being trapped in something awful, the freedom you give me is unfamiliar but fills my soul with light and hope. There are no words i can say to you which would convey my thank yous from the bottom of my heart.
